The Brownsbank Fellowship
"It is hard to believe that a decade has passed since the Fellowship's first writer drew ink by the side of a roaring fire. Now six Fellows have been resident. Each has brought distinction to the post. Each has added a layer of creative substance that has enhanced and developed the Fellowship's objectives. Their creativity and community support has laid a solid foundation for other writers who will take up residency in the next decade and on."
William-John Deerin: Foreword to Stepping into the Avalanche (2003)
The Brownsbank Writing Fellowship aims to maintain Brownsbank Cottage as a centre of literary activity. The Fellowship is supported by the Scottish Arts Council and South Lanarkshire Council and is responsible to the Brownsbank Committee for promoting creative writing and literary awareness throughout South Lanarkshire while using Brownsbank Cottage as a base from which to develop his or her own literary work. The Fellow spends around 17.5 hours per week pursuing his or her own writing and 17.5 hours per week on a range of activities which aim to develop creative writing and literary appreciation in the community.
